A copy of the receipt must be uploaded in the registration form.
Submission of an abstract is mandatory for all the registered participants (1st year PhD students are allowed to send an abstract describing their starting and future PhD project). Submission of a headshot (a profile picture) will be requested during registration, that will be used for the abstract book.
The abstract must be uploaded in .doc or .docx format and comply with this template.
Abstract acceptance will be notified by March 8 2024, before the early deadline for registration to the Congress in Monopoli (March 16).
Each oral presentation should be 10 minutes long (8 minutes + 2 for discussion). Flash talks should be maximum 2 minutes and 2 slides long (without question time). The order of all presentations will be included in the final program.
Abstract not selected for oral presentations or flash talks will be presented in poster sessions. The poster should be of the following size: 100 cm height x 70 width, and should be prepared in a standard format (title, authors and affiliations, abstract, figures and legends). The poster should be exposed for the day of the corresponding poster session on the assigned panel. During the poster session, a poster discussion will be guided by the Junior Faculty.
Participants selected for oral presentations or flash talks are not requested to prepare a poster.

Travel and accommodation in Otranto are not included in the registration fee, except a shuttle service from Brindisi Airport/Lecce train station to Otranto on 20-5-24, and return (or transfer to Monopoli) on 22-5-24. Please consider that the public transport from Brindisi/Lecce to Otranto is absent or insufficient, thus you may need a private transfer, not included in the registration fee, if you will not arrive on 20-5 (when the shuttle service is guaranteed).

To support the participation of young members to the International PhD Retreat 2024, the SIICA faculty will offer travel grants (250,00 euro/each, expected N=8). The SIICA grants are intended to cover the travel expenses and will be assigned based on the quality of the submitted abstract to the meeting. Grant holders will be asked to fill out a travel expense claim form and attach the original receipts to get the reimbursement.
The names of the grant winners will be announced by March 8 2024, before the early deadline for registration to the Congress in Monopoli (March 16). The travel grants for the PhD Retreat are not cumulative with travel grants for the Congress in Monopoli.
Eligibility criteria:
Travel expenses to selected attendees coming from abroad (500,00 euro/each, expected N=4) will be covered by EFIS support.
Travel awards will be assigned by the symposium organizers (members of SIICA Council and Junior Faculty) to attendees based on abstract selection on the basis of scientific merit (being the presenter of the abstract) and currently not holding permanent positions.
Only applicants affiliated with an EFIS member society are eligible (in regular position with membership fees) and residing outside of Italy.
Within these categories, younger attendees (under 35 years) will be prioritized. 18 months extension per child applies to mothers. Fathers may apply under exceptional circumstances.

Who: Keynote lecture by Francesco Colucci (University of Cambridge, UK). Lectures by Daniela Bosisio, Massimo Locati, Domenico Mavilio, and Silvia Piconese. Special guest: the European Journal of Immunology, with Nadja Bakocevic and Matteo Iannacone. A conversation with Angela Santoni.
Why: to learn immunology from renowned scientists, to talk about your PhD project with other students, and to discuss about the difficulties of a science career, in an informal environment and an amazing city.
